Quote's From Those in the Know

  1. Stephanie,
I enjoyed your quote from Vgotsky. I see the quote in practice every day. An older child influences a younger child, who then influences another. This theory also works among the staff! Many times a more experienced staff member will influence a staff member newer to the field. I have even seen a young staff person show a more experienced staff person new ideas. Soon, the ideas spread, and we become ourselves through others, as your quote states!

  2. Stephanie,
Your Louise Derman Sparks quote, “The passion to create a safer and more just world for all kids is there and, I suppose, will be there ‘til I die.” puts into words exactly how I feel about the way I see myself in the early childhood field. I don’t have to think about it, it’s just there and always has been. I feel fortunate that the passion for my career is intrinsic for me. The quotes I have been reading on our blogs are real keepers, so to speak. It is so satisfying to be able to identify with what another person has felt and said about what we want to achieve.

  3. One of my colleagues once told me that education was a calling.. I didn't just fall into it, it was purposed for me. I agree with Susan we are here because we feel we can make a significant difference in the lives of children and their families..

  4. Stephanie. I love the quote you chose from Susan Bredekamp Ph.D. regarding why people stay in the early childhood field. It is because early childhood professionals believe they can make a difference. Stephanie, I come from a corporate environment that is so far removed from the patient that I think most of us are not able to see, feel, and breathe the difference we make in a patient's life. Your quote reminds me that believing, as well as seeing and feeling the difference I am making in a child's life is very important. That is why I plan to make a career change soon. Thank you, Stephanie!
