My Beautiful Web

My Mama and Aunt Ginny were killed in a car crash caused by a drunk driver, who also died. When Nana got the news that her only children were dead, she had a heart attack and also died.
The biggest lesson I learned through all this tragedy is that God is no respecter of age or station in life but He has always been there to help me weather the storms. Through each and everyone I've introduced in this blog I learned how to love, laugh, cry, respect, cuss, cook, worship, pray, how to exercise faith ,choose and know. I love and miss them all.

Moving, learning and growing
My favorite quote is,"Don't worry that your children never listen to you. Worry that they are always watching you." Robert Fulghum
My Mother-in-law would always comment that my daughter was,"getting rich" when she would watch and listen to all the things going on around her, when she was a baby. She was taking in as much of her environment as she could handle and "getting rich" from the experiences. How many times have we heard, "don't do as I do, do as I say"? Children really watch and learn, so, I embrace the quote I sighted.
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by: Laura Numeroff is one my favorite children's books. This book is funny and fun to read to children. It allows them the opportunity to predict before the page is turned. The story can be extended in the classroom with baking cookies, math and science projects, learning the responsibility of cleaning up and taking care of a pet mouse. The story has endless possiblities. I love Felicia Bond's illustrations.

The confirmation
Today at church, my Pastor's sermon came from Ecclesiastes 3:1-11, you know the scriptures that start with,"To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" (King James version of the Holy Bible)
I felt that was my confirmation, from God, that it was time for this new chapter in my life, my journey. My purpose has been clear in my mind, to work with children. I have done that diligently for many years but there comes a time, or shall I say,"a season", when I had to re-examine and re-define my
purpose. I'm getting older and I have decades of knowledge and experience that must be passed on to younger people entering the field of Early Childhood/ Child Development.
So how will I impart the vast amount of information I have acquired to those neophytes? I enrolled in the MSECE at Walden University which will allow me to eventually teach those teachers about young children. I think I will change the MSECE acronym to My Season's Expectations Cause Excitement.

Worries
I've always been sensitive to children with special needs. You will find out why as we move through this class. I have discovered as I start this journey, that I have my own "special needs". I feel unsure that I'm using this blog correctly for one thing. The other pressing issue on my mind, is being able to keep up technologically with those in my group who are more adept. Well, anyway, get ready Walden and group #2 here I come!

As I begin
When I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1982, I thought, "This is it, I'm through with school and I won't be returning". Well we never know what the future holds. We just have to trust that the decisions we make are the right ones for us. I saw my baby graduate from Angelo State University this past May and it stirred something in my spirit when she told me, "Mommy, I'm staying in school to get my Master's Degree". That was something I had hoped to do and this felt like the best time. So, my journey begins.
