Worries

I've always been sensitive to children with special needs. You will find out why as we move through this class. I have discovered as I start this journey, that I have my own "special needs". I feel unsure that I'm using this blog correctly for one thing. The other pressing issue on my mind, is being able to keep up technologically with those in my group who are more adept. Well, anyway, get ready Walden and group #2 here I come!

  1. Stephanie,
I can relate to being unsure how to use the blog and being able to keep up technologically. I know how to email and use facebook and other than that I feel pretty incompetent when it comes to technology. I went back to school to continue my education in Early Childhood Studies and now I am learning all new ways to use technology as well. We shall muddle through this together!

  2. Stephanie,
I am also in my 50's, and also just learning some of the new technology. We will learn together! I am not sure if I am using the blogs correctly either!

I have a soft spot for special needs children. I was raised with an older sister, who is mentally retarded. I feel that all children should have a similar opportunity. To this extent, I try to keep some special needs children enrolled at daycare. It helps the special needs child, and also helps the non-special needs child. Everyone benefits. The world would be a much better place if the special needs child was understood by his/her peers.

  3. Stephanie,
One of my heroes is Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Not just for staring the Special Olympics, but because she dedicated her life to raising awareness of how important it is to for all children, including those with mental and physical challenges, to have the same opportunities for growth, education, healthy development, and achievement. I am glad to hear of your sensitivity to children with special needs and suspect that it will be invaluable in your future career and successes. Good luck!
